Replacing the transfer box (ATC 13-1)

Preliminary work 

• Disconnect all battery GROUND LEADS .
• Remove rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Remove the side transmission UNDERBODY PLANKING
• Remove the tunnel connecting SUPPORT .
• If installed: remove the right and left TORSION STRUT where required.
• Remove complete EXHAUST SYSTEM .
• Remove the HEAT SHIELDS .
• Remove transmission CROSS-MEMBER .
• Remove the RETAINING PLATES
• Partially loosen the PROP SHAFT

• Unscrew the bolt (1) and disconnect the ground strap (2).

• Disconnect connector (1) from transfer box control unit (longitudinal torque distribution) (2).

• Unscrew the screw connection (arrows) of the transfer box.
• Tie the front prop shaft to the underbody.

  It is imperative to prevent damage to the surface coating!

• Carefully pull the transfer box off.

Follow-up work 

• Check/top up the TRANSFER BOX OIL (active torque control 13-1).
• Fasten the PROP SHAFT (partially removed)
• Install the RETAINING PLATES .
• Install transmission CROSS MEMBER .
• Install the HEAT SHIELDS .
• Install the complete EXHAUST SYSTEM .
• If installed: install the right and left TORSION STRUT where required.
• Install the tunnel connecting SUPPORTS .
• Install the transmission side UNDERBODY PLANKING .
• Install rear UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Reconnect all battery GROUND LEADS .
