32 31 102 Replacing steering shaft collar

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove the TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM
US vehicles only: Remove the AIRBAG MODULE for driver knee protection
Unclip air duct in footwell.
Remove bottom STEERING SHAFT in engine compartment.

Pull locking pin (1) off of steering shaft collar.

Press in latch mechanisms (2) from engine compartment and press steering shaft collar in passenger compartment.

Remove the STEERING COLUMN with steering shaft collar.

Installation note:

Mount the STEERING COLUMN with steering shaft collar from passenger compartment.

Screw steering column on body.

Insert steering shaft collar into the recesses in the bulkhead and press in until the latch mechanisms engage audibly and palpably.

Check latch mechanisms from engine compartment for tight fit and mount locking pin.
