71 60 051 Removing and installing/replacing complete trailer tow hitch

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove the REAR BUMPER TRIM

If necessary, unfasten screws (1).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unclip cable clip (2).

Unlock latch mechanisms at marked points and turn adapter (3) in direction of arrow.

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Remove adapter (2).

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unscrew nuts (2).

Tightening torque, refer to: 71 60 1AZ.

Remove trailer tow hitch (3) support member.

Installation note: 

Replace nuts (2).

Replacement: 

With the fully automatic trailer tow hitch up to 02/2014 the CONTROL UNIT MUST BE REPLACED .

Perform an initialization in the test module or manual initialization via the button in the luggage compartment (see Operating Instructions). The manual initialization is described in the procedure.
