41 63 003 Replace Cover Bowl

Applicable to vehicles with diesel engine and SCR fluid tank for urea additive

IMPORTANT: Ensure adequate ventilation in the workbay! Avoid skin contact (wear gloves)! Avoid eye contact (safety goggles)! Urea/water mixture can escape when components carrying urea/water mixture are released. Have a collecting vessel ready. Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

IMPORTANT: Maintain conditions of absolute cleanliness. Connections and covers of lines carrying urea/water mixture must be cleaned thoroughly with water after each removal or before each installation! Thoroughly clean the working area with water after repair work. Use fluff-free cloths for cleaning . Close connections and lines!

Thoroughly clean special tool with water after each use.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove right rear wheel; refer to REMOVE OR INSTALL FRONT OR REAR WHEEL .
Remove rear right wheel arch cover; refer to REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING REAR LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER .
Remove FLAP FOR FUEL FILLER NECK
Close the central locking system with open cap

IMPORTANT: Deformation of the sheet metal flanges in the side wall and the wheel arch results in permanent vehicle leakage. Carry out removal/installation with great care.

Following new body parts are required (refer to the appropriate service information ):

Cover bowl

Press sealing cup (1) through to the outside.

Unscrew nuts (2).

Slacken/unclip fuel filler pipe (3) and lines (3).

Installation note:

Replace plastic nut.

Tightening torque: refer to FUEL DELIVERY .

Slacken nut (1).

Unlock snap fasteners (2) and pull off lines.

Feed out and remove fuel filler pipe (3).

Installation note:

Tightening torque: refer to FUEL DELIVERY .

Installation note:

Clean contact surfaces on body and ground connection (top of holder) on fuel filler pipe.

Ground connection must be guaranteed.

Remove ejector (1) in direction of arrow.

Lift out the retaining strap (1) and remove the lid.

Pierce markings (2) with a small screwdriver.

Insert screwdriver to a depth of max. 7 mm and unlock cover bowl latch mechanism.

Keep cover bowl tensioned with pliers (1).

Unlock catches individually with screwdriver (2).

Unlock catches in following order:

Top left
Bottom left
Top right
Bottom right

Move screwdriver in opposite direction at both lower catches.

Slightly pull the locking pin (1) forward in the direction of the arrow, if applicable.

Close hinge arm (1).

IMPORTANT: Do not damage sheet metal flange of side wall.

Carefully twist out cover bowl (2) at first at rear in direction of arrow from side panel and remove.

Release wiring harness (1) at attachment points.

Release cable (2) for emergency operation of fuel filler cap.

Installation note:

Make sure the cable for emergency operation is correctly installed!

Unlock and disconnect plug connection (1) for actuator drive.

Release retaining clip (2) for locking the fuel filler cap in direction of arrow.

Press latch mechanism (3) in direction of arrow and pull off actuator drive (4) from cover bowl.

Installation note:

Make sure the servo drive for fuel filler flap is correctly installed!

Check central locking system before installation of cover bowl.

Installation note:

Open hinge arm.

Turn sealing sleeve in area of hinge inwards and hold.

Insert cover bowl and engage sealing cup over fuel filler pipe.

Using fitting aid (1), pull sealing lip (2) over sheet metal flange of wheel arch (3).

Installation note:

Following parts on cover bowl (6) must not be damaged or missing:

Rubber pad
Latch mechanisms, top/bottom
Spring
Catch
Guide

Cover bowl must audibly snap into place 4 times.

There must be no discernible gap between sealing lip and side wall in area.
