11 00... Engine oil change

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
Carry out work on the vehicle only when wearing oil- and heat-resistant protective gloves including forearm protection, face guard and protective apron.

Attention!

Carry out engine oil service only when the engine is at operating temperature.

Observe the exact engine oil filling capacity.

Overfilling the engine with engine oil will result in engine damage .

Risk of damage!

When working on the engine oil, coolant or fuel circuit, it is essential always to protect the alternator against dirt contamination.

Cover alternator with suitable materials.

Recycling:

Catch and dispose of drained engine oil in a suitable collecting vessel.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove ACOUSTIC COVER

Removal:

Remove cover (1).

Unhook positive wire (1) in marked area.

Partially unhook engine compartment sealing (2).

Release oil filter cap (1).

NOTE: Engine oil flows out of the oil filter housing and back into the oil sump.

Release screw (1).

Open the service flap (2).

Open oil drain plug (1) of oil sump and drain engine oil.

Drain the engine oil.

Installation:

Replace the sealing ring.

Part: Sealing ring.

Tighten oil drain plug (1).

Tightening torque: 11 13 1AZ .

NOTE: Observe the guide bore (1) for oil filter element in oil filter housing (2).

Replace O-ring (1) and oil filter (2).

Parts: O-ring (1) and oil filter (2).

Coat O-ring (1) and (3) with engine oil.

Remove and insert oil filter element (2) in direction of arrow.

Secure oil filter cover (1).

Tightening torque 11 42 1AZ .

Attention!

Damaged gasoline particulate filter!

Vehicles equipped with a gasoline particulate filter must be operated using low-ash engine oil only.

Use BMW Longlife-04, BMW Longlife-12 FE, BMW Longlife-17 FE+ or engine oils approved by BMW that match the identical specifications only.

NOTE: Fill in ENGINE OIL at the oil filler neck.
Start engine and run at idle until oil pressure indicator light goes out.
Switch off engine.
Check oil filter cover (1) and oil drain plug of oil sump for tightness.

Close service flap (2) with bolt (1).

Hook in engine compartment sealing (2).

Checking oil level:

Park vehicle on a horizontal surface
Check oil level at operating temperature of the engine on the control display
Top up engine oil if necessary
