12 31 020 Removing and installing or replacing alternator (N20)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

NOTE: In order to remove the alternator, it is necessary to remove the air conditioning compressor.
In so doing:

Do not draw off A/C system refrigerant.
Do not detach refrigerant lines from A/C compressor.
Do not remove A/C compressor; instead, remove from bracket only and place to one side.
Release AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR and set aside.

Open the holder (1) with suitable tools.

Clip refrigerant line (2) out of holder (1).

Installation note:

Check that the refrigerant line (2) is correctly seated in the holder (1)!

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Release nut (2) and remove the positive battery cable.

Tightening torque 12 42 1AZ .

Disconnect tank ventilation line (3) and place to one side.

Feed out alternator (4) to the left and remove.

Assemble engine.
