• 00 9 250 
• 00 9 460 
• 11 9 190 
• 11 8 570 
• 11 4 350 
• 00 9 120 
• 2 249 117 

(cylinder bank 5 to 8) 

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Read fault memory and make a documentary record  .
• Remove LEFT CYLINDER HEAD COVER .
• Remove LEFT GEAR CASE COVER .
• Check TIMING .

Release central bolts (1 and 2) of intake adjuster and exhaust camshaft adjuster.

Installation note: 

Replace central bolts after releasing.

Coat contact surface of new central bolt (1) with 4.4 copper paste.

Release screw (1).

Release special tool 2 249 162 at knurled screws and remove.

Remove upper tensioning rail (2).

Remove central bolt (2) of inlet adjustment unit.

Installation note: 

Replace central bolts after releasing.

Detach inlet adjustment unit (1) in direction of arrow from inlet camshaft.

Feed out inlet adjustment unit (2) from timing chain (1).

Lift out inlet adjustment unit (2).

Detach exhaust adjustment unit (1) in direction of arrow from exhaust camshaft.

Feed out exhaust adjustment unit (2) from timing chain (1).

Lift out exhaust adjustment unit (2).

Installation note:

Feed adjuster into timing chain and position on camshafts.

Insert central bolts (1 and 2) on adjustment units without gaps.

Release central bolts (1 and 2) by 45°  .

Fit slide rail (2) and tighten with screws (1).

Tightening torque: 11 31 4AZ .

Position the special tool 2 249 144 on the intake camshaft.

Secure special tool 2 249 144 with screws (1).

Position special tool 2 249 159 on exhaust camshaft.

Tighten the special tool 2 249 159 special tool 2 249 140  .

Screw in the special tool 2 249 162.

Pretension timing chain with special tool 2 249 162  .

Pretension timing chain with special tool 00 9 250 or 00 9 460  to 0.6 Nm  .

Release central bolts (1 and 2) by 45°  .

Remove special tool 11 9 190.

Disconnect special tools 11 9 190  from gear case cover.

Rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation at central bolt until special tool 11 8 570 comes into contact in front of special tool 11 9 190.

Insert central bolt (1) of exhaust camshaft with special tool 11 4 350.

Joining torque 5 Nm  .

Joining torque 5 Nm  .

Then remove special tool 11 9 190.

Turn engine at central bolt further until special tool 11 9 190 can be positioned in gear case cover.

The engine is now 150° before TDC firing position cylinder 1.

Installation note: 

Tighten central bolts beginning with the exhaust camshaft.

Insert central bolt (1) of exhaust camshaft with torque.

Tightening torque of 30 Nm
