Removing and installing (replacing) rear bumper panel (X6 M)

Necessary preliminary work: 

• Remove BOTH REAR LIGHTS .

No labels may be attached in the radiation areas of the radar sensors.

The component may be painted if no radar sensors have been installed.

The following features can be used to identify whether radar sensors are installed on the vehicle:

Radar sensors are installed at the rear if the triangular warning light is located on the exterior mirror (in the mirror glass or on the mirror frame).

Radar sensors are installed at the front and rear if the triangular warning light is located on the exterior mirror (in the mirror glass or on the mirror frame) in conjunction with the optional equipment S5ATA or S5AUA.

Removal: 

Partially detach WHEEL ARCH FINISHER (1)  in the area of the bumper trim panel.

Release screw (2).

Release left and right screws (1).

Undo screws (1) on bumper panel (2).

Removing: 

1. Starting from side area, carefully disengage individual guide tabs on left and right.
2. With the assistance of a second person, detach bumper panel rearwards from guides/latch mechanisms in a straight line.
3. Disconnect all plug connections.
4. Set bumper trim panel aside.

Installation: 

Replacement: 

• Remount BUMPER FOOTWELL TRIM .

Assembly: 

1. Hold bumper panel to the vehicle with the assistance of a second person.
2. Connect all plug connections.
3. Bumper panel must now be attached.
4. In side area, carefully latch individual guide tabs into place at left and right.

Tighten screws (1) on bumper panel (2).

Tightening torque 51 12 5AZ .

Tighten screws (1) on left and right.

Tightening torque 51 12 5AZ .

Replace faulty clips (2).

Water ingress! 

Always install clips (2) with sealing ring.

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 51 12 5AZ .

Clip in the WHEEL ARCH TRIM (1)  in the area of bumper panel.

Required follow-up work: 

• Install BOTH REAR LIGHTS .
