Removing and installing/replacing left charge air cooler (S63 B44 T 2) (X5 M)

WARNING: Risk of scalding! Only perform this repair work after engine has cooled down!

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove ACOUSTIC COVER .
Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove the front left (front section) WHEEL ARCH COVER .
Remove FAN COWL .
Drain COOLANT .
Remove the PRESSURE SENSOR on the left charge air cooler.
Follow INSTRUCTIONS for repair work on the cooling system.

Removal:

Release clamps (1).

Loosen the coolant hoses (2) from the clamps (1).

Release screw (1).

Loosen the nuts (1) and place the oil reservoir for the hydraulic pump (2) to one side.

Loosen the clamp (1) at the bottom of the throttle body.

Attention!

When loosening the coolant hoses from the charge air cooler, make sure that the connector remains connected to the throttle body. Coolant may not penetrate the plug connection at the throttle body.

Disconnect coolant hoses from charge air cooler using pinch-off tools (to prevent coolant from escaping).

Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.

Loosen the clamp (1) and pull off the coolant hose from the charge air cooler.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (2).

Remove tank vent valve (3) from charge air cooler.

Unlock and detach coolant hose (1).

Unlock and pull off the coolant hose (1) on the left from the radiator.

Set coolant hose (1) aside.

Pull off the left charge air cooler (1) from the exhaust turbocharger towards the front.

Feed out and remove the charge air cooler (1) towards the top.

Installation:

Feed in the right-hand charge air cooler (1).

Connect the right-hand charge air cooler (1) with the throttle body and the exhaust turbocharger.

Connect the coolant hose (1) on the left to the radiator.

The coolant hose (1) must audibly engage.

Connect the coolant hose (1) at the bottom to the left-hand charge air cooler.

The coolant hose (1) must audibly engage.

Part: Replace clamp (1).

Connect the coolant hose to the charge air cooler and secure with the clamp (1).

Connect and lock coolant hose (2).

The coolant hose (2) must engage audibly.

Install the tank vent valve (3) to the charge air cooler.

Tighten the clamp (1) at the bottom to the throttle body.

Tightening torque 13 71 7AZ .

Install the oil reservoir for the hydraulic pump (2) and tighten the nuts (1).

Tightening torque 32 41 1AZ .

Tighten the screw (1) on the left-hand charge air cooler.

Tightening torque 13 71 6AZ .

Secure the coolant hoses (2) to the clamps (1).

Part: Replace clamp (1).

Secure the charge air hose between the charge air cooler and the exhaust turbocharger with the clamps (1).

Required follow-up work:

Install ACOUSTIC COVER .
Install front WHEEL ARCH COVER (front section), left.
Install the DRIVE BELT for the alternator on the alternator.
Top up COOLANT and vent cooling system.
Top up and bleed the COOLANT FOR THE CHARGE AIR COOLER .
Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Connect BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
