12 42 500 Replacing the positive battery cable between the starter motor, alternator and positive battery connection point (N57 D30O 1)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit.
• Switch off ignition.
• Disconnect BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
• Remove INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
• Remove bottom ACOUSTIC COVER .

Fold back cover (1).

Release nut underneath.

Tightening torque 12 52 4AZ .

Remove positive battery cable from battery positive terminal.

Release positive battery cable from retainers (2).

Release positive battery cable from intake plenum.

Installation note: 

It is imperative to secure positive battery cable with cable strap and holder (1) at the intake plenum. If the positive battery cable cannot be secured, it may result in a cable break.

For vehicles without cable strap with holder, it is necessary to modify with cable strap with holder and secure positive battery cable at intake plenum.

Release nut (2) on alternator.

Tightening torque 12 52 2AZ .

Release nut (1) on starter motor.

Tightening torque 12 52 3AZ .

Disconnect positive battery cable (2) from starter motor.

Release positive battery cable (2) from clamp (3).

Remove battery positive lead from alternator and feed out.
