Remove and install (replace) roof shell lock package (M4 Convertible)

Special tools required:

2 360 047

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove FRONT ROOFLINER .
Lower CENTER ROOFLINER .

Installation note:

Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not be reused
Screw connection must be completed within 20 mins. (start of curing)
Microencapsulated screws must not be retightened
Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

Move soft top into service position.

Move soft top so that angle of the hinges is not ≤90°.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! Pressure in hydraulic system drops and soft top loses its position.

Support rear roof shell to soft top cover with suitable auxiliary materials.

Auxiliary materials must lie over wide area and if possible over entire length.

Rear roof shell is supported by auxiliary materials on soft top cover.

Roof shells block each other.

Slide open retaining clip (1) and unclip ball head.

NOTE: Before removing the locks, mark the positions of the screws to ensure correct alignment when installing.

Release screws (1), bracing barrel screws with special tool 2 360 047 C.

Tightening torque 54 37 07AZ .

Do not adjust barrel screws (1) for roof shell height adjustment.

When replacing the roof shell, measure the height of the barrel screws and apply it to the new roof shell.

NOTE: Before removing the locks, mark the position of the nuts to ensure correct alignment when installing.

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unscrew nuts (2).

Tightening torque 54 37 07AZ .

Installation note:

Replace nuts (2).

Remove engine support with drive unit (3).

Installation note:

Guide cylinder must retract silently and tension-free into counter support.

Check distance (A) and adjust as necessary.

(A) = 16 mm

Installation note:

Check GAP DIMENSIONS and adjust if necessary.

Replacement only:

Center new engine support with drive unit (3) to threaded bolts.

Tighten new nuts (2).

Tightening torque 54 37 07AZ .

Connect the plug (1).

Loosely screw on the new locks.

It should just be barely possible to slide the lock, as it must still move enough to center itself.

Close soft top.

Installation note:

Guide cylinder must retract silently and tension-free into counter support.

Check distance (A) and adjust as necessary.
