Install the number plate base for the license plate

WARNING: Malfunction of the sensors of the assistance systems.
Incorrect assembly of the license plate leads to a malfunction of the sensors of the assistance systems.

Only install the license plate and number plate baseplate according to the predefined dimensions in the repair instructions.
Attach the license plate and number plate baseplate to the bumper cover without pre-drilling, otherwise there is a risk of damage to the cables underneath.
Only use number plate baseplates that have been approved for the vehicle type.

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The license plate must be precisely mounted on the number plate baseplate and must not protrude on the underside.
The license-plate carrier must not be installed on the front bumper.

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
In the European version with basic bumper cover, the license plate is installed without number plate baseplate.

Positioning the number plate

Position the number plate or number plate baseplate correctly.
Make sure that the angle of radiation (1) of the ACC sensor is not obstructed.
Make sure that the angle of radiation (2) of the front camera is not obstructed.

Detect possible fault patterns resulting from incorrect assembly and rectify

Check the license plate for correct position.

Result

» The position of the license plate is too low.

The angle of radiation of the ACC sensor (1) is partially covered.

Malfunction of the ACC sensor (1) is possible.

Measure
- Remove the license-plate carrier.
With Check Control messages due to incorrect assembly of the license plate or the number plate baseplate: Position the license plate or the number plate baseplate correctly.

CAUTION: Laser beam.
Injury hazard!

Do not look into the laser beam.

Park the vehicle and the special tool 2 407 566 on a flat and even surface.
Mount the laser on the tripod.
Switch on laser (Position without automatic level).
Activate laser horizontally and vertically.

With European version with bumper cover (Basic):

Mark the center of the license plate (3).

Position and center align the special tool for the vehicle.

Align vertical laser beam (1) to center of vehicle (for example, on the emblem).

Align the horizontal laser beam (2) to 2 symmetrical corners on the vehicle.

Align the horizontal laser beam (2) with the edge of the bumper cover.

Align the license plate (3) to both the laser beams (1) and (2) and mark the attachment points in all the 4 corners.

Screw the license plate (3) tightly without pre-drilling on to the marked attachment points.

Use only short screws (TS 5x13).

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

For Japanese version and US version:

Position and center align the special tool for the vehicle.

Align vertical laser beam (1) to center of vehicle (for example, on the emblem).

Align the horizontal laser beam on 2 symmetrical corner points on the vehicle.

Align the horizontal laser beam (2) on the upper edge of the air inlet.

Move horizontal laser beam (2) upwards vertically by dimension (A).

License plate baseplate
	Dimension A	5 mm

Align the base of the number plate baseplate (3) on the horizontal laser beam and mark the attachment points.

Screw down the number plate baseplate (3) at the marked attachment points.

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

License plate baseplate
	Tightening torque	2.5 Nm

Install the number plate base for the license plate (2).
Tighten down screws (1).
