12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing the starter motor (N55 Hybrid)
WARNING:
High-voltage system - danger to life!
The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work :
- Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for handling hybrid cars.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Switch off ignition.
- Disconnect battery negative lead . See 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD or 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
- Detach the BATTERY EARTH LEAD from the auxiliary battery.
- Remove INTAKE PLENUM .
Unlock connector (1) and remove.
Release nuts (2) and disconnect positive battery cables.
Tightening torque 12 42 2AZ .
Release screws (3).
Tightening torque 12 41 1AZ .
Remove starter motor (4).
Installation note:
Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage. Replace starter motor if necessary.
Only during starter replacement and on vehicles with MSA (automatic engine start-stop function):
- Use BMW diagnosis system to reset the starter counter.
