11 31 028 Removing and installing/replacing exhaust camshaft (N20)

Special tools required:
- 11 9 000
- 83 30 0494 362
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove CYLINDER HEAD COVER .
- Adjust VALVE TIMING .
- Remove EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque: 11 31 4AZ.
Release banjo bolt (1).
Tightening torque. 11 31 9AZ.
Unclip engine oil pipe (2) from the brackets (see arrows).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque: 11 31 1AZ.
Remove bearing cap (2).
Remove roller tappet (1).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque: 11 31 1AZ.
Remove high-pressure pump bracket (3).
Release screws (1 and 2) by half a rotation.
Tightening torque: 11 31 1AZ.
IMPORTANT:
Marks of intake and exhaust camshafts are different.
Mixing up the intake and exhaust camshaft will result in engine damage .
A = Exhaust camshaft.
E = Intake camshaft
Mixing up the intake and exhaust camshaft will result in engine damage .

IMPORTANT:
Removal on engine:
Set engine to ignition TDC at cylinder No. 1.
Removed cylinder head:
When using special tool 11 9 000 , it will be necessary to remove the aluminium strip.

Set engine to ignition TDC at cylinder No. 1.
Removed cylinder head:
When using special tool 11 9 000 , it will be necessary to remove the aluminium strip.

Installation note:
Prior to installation of exhaust camshaft, ensure proper installation position of rocker arm (1).
Insert exhaust camshaft so that the data code (1) on the mounting flats faces up.

Assemble engine.
