51 16 063 Removing and installing or replacing interior rearview mirror

Version with remote control for central locking:

If necessary, disconnect negative lead from BATTERY .

Expand two-part cover (1) by pressing from below. Feed out split cover (1) on mirror base plate in each case remove in outward direction.

If necessary, disconnect plug connection underneath.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Do not pull mirror (1) off windscreen; instead, carefully turn approx. 45° clockwise to snap out of mirror base (2).

Installation:

Fit mirror base plate on mirror base turned through approx. 45° (see illustration) and snap audibly into place by turning counterclockwise carefully in direction of arrow.

Only replace with version with remote control for central locking:

Initialize all transmitters (ignition keys).

Only when replacing mirror with FLA (high-beam assistance) for vehicles from build date 09/2009 onward:

Replace CAN connector (3-pin).

Unpin and dispose of existing connector.

Install newly coded connector part number 6 905 977 (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Department) in same way as existing connector.
