64 52 524 Removing and installing/replacing heating and air conditioning system compressor (N63, X Drive, Dynamic Drive)

Special tools required:

WARNING: Danger of injury!
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Read and comply with safety instructions:
IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on compressor replacement.  See NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) -or- NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .

Follow notes for OPENING AND REPLACING PARTS in refrigerant circuit.

If Air conditioning is opened for more than 24 h:

Replace desiccant insert for A/C system. See REPLACING DESICCANT INSERT  or REPLACING DESICCANT INSERT (CAPACITOR REMOVED) .

Necessary preliminary work:

Release screw (1).

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 37 11 2AZ .

Carefully lower active stabilizer (3).

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .

Take the refrigerant line (2) of the condenser.

NOTE: Position refrigerant line (2) in direction of arrow.

This work step makes swivelling the compressor to remove the refrigerant lines easier.

IMPORTANT: Seal openings or lines on compressor with special tool 32 1 270 to prevent escape of media and dirt contamination.

Secure compressor (1) against falling out.

Take compressor (1) off the crankcase and turn downwards slightly.

Release screw in the marked area at refrigerant line (2).

Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .

Remove refrigerant line (2).

Installation note:

Replace sealing rings.

Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.

IMPORTANT: Danger of compressor damage!
Danger of customer complaints due to reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning!
Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor!
The notes on refrigerant oil must be observed! See NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) -or- NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .

Installation note:

Replace sealing rings.

Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.

After installation:
