51 32 154 Adjusting left or right front side window
Special tools required:
Configuring the correct setting will fulfil the following properties:
- Seal against water ingress
- No wind noise
- No rattling
- No unintentional reversing of the door window glass during closing action (anti-trap mechanism)
Prerequisites for correct adjustment:
- Vehicle is supported on wheels at ground level
- Soft top closed
- Correctly adjusted FRONT DOOR
- Charge BATTERY
(Full operability of the power windows during the adjusting procedure is only assured with an external voltage supply)
Attention!
When closing, the door window glass must not jam on the trim strip in any area (fixed side window glass may break).
Do not forcefully close the door during measurement and adjusting procedures (fixed side window glass may break).
Observe the checking and adjustment sequence!
- Door window glass preload
- Door window glass retraction depth/longitudinal direction
- Preload
- 1.1 Preparations
Open door; move door window glass into uppermost position, if necessary.
Insert special tool 51 0 341 into the rotary striker of the door lock and manually lock the rotary striker (activation of the short stroke function).
Carefully close the door until the special tool 51 0 341 magnetically adheres to the striker (defined opening angle of the door for measurements).
- 1.2 Preload ideal setting NOTE: Do not apply force to the door or the door window glass during measurements.
Place special tool 51 0 342 on the gasket of the window guide (1) and the door window glass (2) for positioning.
Determine the dimension for the preload between the inner edge of the door window glass (2) and the gasket of the window guide (1).

Dimension = 29 mm
- 1.3 Adjust preload
Open door and remove sealing cap from door frame.
Insert special tool 2 351 398 into the door and position on the nut (1) and the guide (2).
Loosen nut (1) with knob (3).
Turn lever (4) to adjust the preload and tighten the nut (1).
Tightening torque: 51 33 2AZ .
Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Remove special tool 51 0 341 from the rotary striker of the door lock.
- 1.1 Preparations
- Retraction depth/longitudinal direction
- 2.1 Retraction depth/longitudinal direction ideal setting
Open door.
Insert special tool 2 304 553 at the measuring points (A to C) on the door window glass.
Close door.
Measure the longitudinal direction (A) and the retraction depth (B and C) (see next operation).

Area Dimension Position of special tool 2 304 553 A 19 ±1 mm Centrally on mirror triangle B 5.5 ±1 mm 30 to 40 mm above the exterior mirror C 7 ±1 mm 60 to 70 mm in front of the outer edge of the door window glass IMPORTANT: It must be able to open and close the door without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip (risk of damage).NOTE: Check the play of the special tool 2 356 862 to the edge of the door window glass before each measurement.Position special tool 2 356 862 with 5 mm holder (1) onto the door window glass when it is locked (A).
Close door and disengage lock (2).
Read retraction depth from scale.

NOTE: Special tool 2 356 862 must rest against the edge of the door window glass without play for each measurement. - 2.2. Adjust retraction depth/longitudinal direction
Remove WEATHER STRIP on the front door from the outside.
NOTE: Avoid damaging the door window glass and the window cavity with tools.During adjustments make sure that special tool 2 304 553 continues to rest against the window edge without allowing for any play.
Loosen multipoint head cap screws (1) with special tool 2 360 051 A until door window glass can be moved with little effort using a suction lifter.
NOTE: Always loosen both multipoint head cap screws to prevent tension in the power window.Courtesy of BMW OF NORTH AMERICA, INC.
Adjust longitudinal direction (A) of the door window glass.
Attach special tool 2 359 976 on the door window glass.
Loosen adjustment plate (1) by twisting it.
Adjust the retraction depth of the fixed side window glass by moving the adjustment plate (1).
Tighten adjustment plate (1).
