54 34 128 Removing and installing/replacing trim strip on soft top compartment lid

WARNING: Soft top becomes pressureless without a warning signal.
For all repair work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
Ignition must remain switched off during the repair work.
Failure to comply with this instruction may result in the hydraulic valves incurring preliminary damage.

Removal:

Open soft top compartment lid (2) and support using suitable auxiliary material.

Undo nuts (1) on the inside of the soft top compartment lid (2).

Remove trim strip (3) straight towards the rear with the help of a second person.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
When removing the trim strip (3), the bolted connection come loose and fall on the painted assembled parts.
Carry trim strip by its middle section only.

Installation:

IMPORTANT:

Carry trim strip by its middle section only (risk of damage)
Perform installation work with a second person helping
Prepositioning of trim strip
Check that the trim strip is parallel to the soft top compartment lid.

NOTE: Seal (1) must not be damaged.
Make sure gasket (1) is correctly seated on trim strip (3).
If necessary, push all threaded bolts (2) in the markings of the trim strip (3.

Open soft top compartment lid (2) and support using suitable auxiliary material.

Mount trim strip (3) straight from the rear.

Tighten nuts (1) on the inside of the soft top compartment lid (2).

Tightening torque: 51 17 5AZ .
