11 13 000 Removing and installing, sealing or replacing oil sump (N47D20 K/U/O/T 1)
Special tools required:
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove starter motor . See 12 41 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STARTER MOTOR (N47 D16/20 K/U/O/T 1) or 12 41 020 REMOVING AND REFITTING/REPLACING STARTER MOTOR (N47 D20 O 1 WITH SCR) .
- Drain ENGINE OIL .
- Remove oil dipstick GUIDE TUBE .
- Remove lower sound insulation . See 13 71.. REMOVING BOTTOM SOUND INSULATION (N47 D16/20 K/U/O/T 1) or 13 71.. REMOVING LOWER SOUND INSULATION (N47 D20 O 1 WITH SCR) .
- Remove FRONT AXLE DIFFERENTIAL (AWD).
- Removing BEARING SUPPORT (all-wheel drive).
Application time of sealing bead max. 12 minutes.
Loosen connector of oil level sensor (1).
Release bolts (2) along dashed line.
Tightening torque 11 13 2AZ .
Installation note:
Tighten down all screws diagonally and evenly.
Engines with liquid seal:
Use a suitable crow bar (1) at the appropriate point to release the oil sump in direction of arrow.
Clean sealing surface (1) with special tool (11 4 472).
Installation note:
Sealing surfaces must be free of oil, grease and cleaning agents.
Clean sealing surface (1) with special tool (11 4 471).
Installation note:
Sealing surfaces must be free of oil, grease and cleaning agents.
Apply sealing compound:
APPLY THE SEALING COMPOUND IN AREA (1) .
Make sure that the sealing bead runs along the inner edge.
The oil return channel must be completely surrounded (see arrow).
Installation note:
The oil sump must be installed approximately 10 minutes after application of the sealing compound.
Sealant height approximately 2 to 2.5 mm.
Installation note:
Special tool 11 8 780 is only necessary if the engine or the transmission is removed.
Position special tool 11 8 780 with transmission bolts (1) so that engine oil sump is exactly flush with engine block.
Attaching the oil sump.
Assemble engine.
