64 52 523 Removing and installing/replacing air conditioning compressor (N63)
Special tools required:
Follow notes for OPENING AND REPLACING PARTS IN REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
Risk of damage:
Restart engine only when air conditioning has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on compressor replacement: see NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL NOT KNOWN) or NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL KNOWN) .
If air conditioning system is opened for more than 24 hours: Replace DESICCANT INSERT for A/C system
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- DRAW OFF air conditioning system
- Remove A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT
- Remove RIGHT FRONT WHEEL
- Remove FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Remove steering gear cover. See REMOVING BOTTOM STEERING BOX COVER , REMOVING TOP LEFT STEERING BOX COVER , and REMOVING TOP RIGHT STEERING BOX COVER .
- Remove RADIATOR

Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 53 5AZ .
Remove intake pipe (2) from exhaust tailpipe holder (3).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .
Remove refrigerant line from condenser (2).
Installation note:
Renew sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
Release screw (1).
Take off holder (2).
Lay lines (3) slightly to one side.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 03AZ .
Disconnect plug connection (2).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 03AZ .
Lower compressor (5).
Release screws (3) and (4) and remove refrigerant lines.
Tightening torque 64 52 04AZ .
Installation note:
Renew sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to install sealing rings without damaging them.
Carefully feed out compressor (5) toward the front.
Replacement:
- Adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor: see NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL NOT KNOWN) or NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL KNOWN) .
Danger of compressor damage.
Possibility of reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning.
Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor. See NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL NOT KNOWN) or NOTES FOR CHANGING AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL KNOWN) .
After installation:
- EVACUATE AND FILL air conditioning
- FILL AND VENT cooling system
