51 47 315 Removing and installing/replacing carpet for vehicle interior
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect battery negative lead. See DISCONNECTING/CONNECTING BATTERY EARTH LEAD or DISCONNECT/CONNECT BATTERY EARTH LEAD (PLUG-IN HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE) .
- Remove both FRONT SEATS
- Remove ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODULE .
- Remove CENTER CONSOLE .
- Remove TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM .
- Remove lower INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM .
- Remove COVER FOR CENTRAL BASS SPEAKER left/right.
- Remove front left/right footwell side trim panel. See REMOVING SIDE TRIM PANEL, FOOTWELL, ON A-PILLAR, LEFT and REMOVING SIDE TRIM PANEL, FOOTWELL, ON A-PILLAR, RIGHT .
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage!
Pay attention to cables when cutting.
Start cuts towards center of vehicle as far as is possible. This guarantees that cutting edges are covered by storage compartment and/or dashboard.
Cut out carpet along lines (1).
Remove carpet to the rear/top and feed out cable.
Installation note:
Apertures (1) serve as fixing points for fitting carpet.
Replacement:
Lay removed carpet over new one and transfer cuts to new carpet.
Remount STORAGE NET , if necessary.
