54 10 260 Removing and installing the panorama glass roof

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW 328i xDrive, 2016 BMW 328d xDrive, 2015 BMW 328i xDrive, 2015 BMW 328d xDrive, and 2014 BMW 328i xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Special tools required:

54 1 110

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove ROOFLINER
Remove FRONT GLASS SLIDE/TILT SUNROOF PANEL
Remove HOLDER GRAB HANDLES
Open tailgate

IMPORTANT: Two persons are required to help in removing the panorama glass roof.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Removed panorama glass roof must only be placed on a level support.
Do not place panorama glass roof on cross members.
Place panorama glass roof broadly across side frame.

Unlock plug connection (1) from front powertrain and disconnect.

IMPORTANT: Airbag leads must not be damaged during removal.

Detach the lines fastened with a cable clip on the left and right of the panorama glass roof frame.

Installation note:

Lay airbag lead without tension or kinks.

IMPORTANT: Lay out protective mats to protect the interior against swarf from the drilled-out rivets and damage.
Lay out protective mats in the relevant working area:

Entrance area
Passenger compartment

US version only:

Remove reinforcement plate (2) on the left and right.

Drill out rivet plate (1) down to rivet shank with a 10-mm twist drill bit.

Remove reinforcement plate (2).

Drive out rivet heads with a punch.

Detach water drain hoses (1)
NOTE: Check hoses for damage and coat with water before installation
Check water drain hoses for continuity. Clean water drain hoses as required.
Release screws in marked area
NOTE: Note the different screw lengths.
Three short screws (2).
Three long black screws (3) in silver bushes.
Tightening torque 54 12 02AZ .

An assistant must secure the panorama glass roof to prevent it falling.
Release screws in marked area and carefully lower the panorama glass roof.
Tightening torque 54 12 02AZ .

IMPORTANT: Do not damage any surrounding parts when removing the panorama glass roof.

Remove panorama glass roof through tailgate.

IMPORTANT: Do not crush any cables when installing the panorama glass roof.

Installation note:

To align the panorama glass roof to the body aperture, insert screws and tighten loosely.

The panorama glass roof must still be able to move in the body aperture.

On account of leaks, the panorama glass roof must be exactly aligned to body aperture.

Insert special tool 54 1 110 into the centering bore as far as it will go in the panorama glass roof and body.

Tighten down screws.

Tightening torque 54 12 02AZ .

INITIALIZE the panorama glass roof.

Replacement:

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/ENCODING
