41 21 201 Replace B-Pillar With Reinforcement On Left (Non-Hybrid)

Procedure OBSERVE  repair stage 3!

Read contents of BODY, GENERAL .

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle.

Observe specific PROCEDURE .

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Following new body parts are required (refer to ELECTRONIC PARTS CATALOGUE ):

Removal of B-pillar with reinforcement

Mark severance cuts in accordance with specified dimensions and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only for following severance cuts.
Only severance cut (1): Cut through B-pillar completely.
Dimension a = approx. 160 mm from center point of 25 mm dia. hole.
Dimension b = approx. 110 mm after cut a.
Dimension c = approx. 80 mm from edge of roof frame.
Dimension d = approx. 90 mm below cut c.
Dimension e = approx. 140 mm before center of 15 mm dia. hole.
Dimension f = approx. 80 mm before cut e.
Open welded connections in areas (2).
NOTE: Cut out metal section is needed again for sealing.

Mark severance cuts in accordance with specified dimensions and cut.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer panel only for following severance cuts.
Measurement a = approx. 60 mm from centerpoint of 15 mm dia. hole.
Dimension b = approx. 180 mm from center point of hole dia. 15 mm
OPEN  spot-welded adhesive joints in areas (1).
Open welded connections in area (2).

Installation note:

Apply repair welding spots in area (2) to existing welding spots on new component/vehicle.

This is necessary because the adhesive between the spot flanges acts as an insulator.

View from inside:

Open welded connections in area (1).

Open spot-welded adhesive joints in area (2)

Open bonded connections in area (3).

Remove B-pillar.

Mark severance cut in accordance with dimension and cut.

IMPORTANT: Only cut the two exterior panels with the following severance cut.
Do not damage inner top side frames!

Dimension a =120 mm from the edge of roof frame.

Detach welded connections (1) and remove section (2).

New part preparation 

Mark severance cuts on new part of B-pillar in accordance with severance cuts on the vehicle and cut.

Graphic similar.

IMPORTANT: Do not cut through support (3) for B-pillar reinforcement.

Mark further severance cuts on new parts in accordance with severance cuts on vehicle and cut.

Prepare REINFORCEMENT PLATES  at severance cuts.

IMPORTANT: Risk of fire!

Slightly remove adhesive foam of cavity sealing (2) in area (1).

Cool area (1) with compressed air during welding.

IMPORTANT: Structure bonding!
OBSERVE  preparation of bonding surfaces (1).

NOTE: Only vehicles up to 09/2011:
For additional replacement and attachment of side member (1): observe PREPARATION OF NEW PART !

Installation of B-pillar with reinforcement 

Clean bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.

Apply adhesive K1 to bonding surfaces.

Install new parts and reinforcement plates with alignment bracket or universal mount and weld.

IMPORTANT: Only weld new parts in regions (1) after installation of B-pillar (2).

In areas (3), weld new parts in the same way as in series standard.
