18 10 100 Replacing intermediate pipe (N57 D30 U/O 0/1)

Special tools required:

31 2 220

WARNING: Risk of burning!
This repair work may only be carried out on an exhaust system which has cooled down.

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove UNDERBODY PANELLING at rear

Support intermediate pipe with special tool 31 2 220 and suitable universal lifter.

If fitted:

Release screws (1).

Remove heat shield (2).

F01, F02, F07 only:

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 6AZ .

Only if auxiliary heating fitted. Release screw (2) on metering pump.

Tightening torque 18 20 7AZ .

Release screws (3) on underbody panelling.

Remove reinforcement plate (4).

F10 and F11 only:

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 6AZ .

Only if auxiliary heating fitted. Release screw (2) on metering pump.

Tightening torque 18 20 7AZ .

Release screws (3) on underbody panelling.

Remove reinforcement plate (4).

NOTE: If the separation point is not marked by a punch mark on the pipe, determine the separation point by means of the pipe length on the new intermediate pipe.
Carry over cutting line to defective intermediate pipe and mark.
Secure intermediate pipe against falling out.
Cut through exhaust pipes at marked point with a suitable tool.

Slacken nut (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 4AZ .

Remove intermediate pipe.

Installation note:

Adjust intermediate pipe to fit and connect with clamps.

Center clamp and tighten down.

Tightening torque 18 20 9AZ .

The procedure is identical on both sides.
