12 36 014 Removing and refitting/replacing electric motor ECU

WARNING: High-voltage system - danger to life!
The following points must be strictly observed prior to starting work: 

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Detach high-voltage cables (1) from protective plate (2).

Detach positive battery cable (3) from protective plate (2).

Unscrew nuts (4).

Tightening torque 12 36 1AZ .

Release screws (5).

Tightening torque 12 36 1AZ .

Unclip coolant hose (6) from holder.

Feed out protective plate (2).

Installation note: 

Make sure ventilation duct (7) is correctly seated. Do not pinch ventilation duct (7).

Coolant emerges when coolant lines are detached.

Catch and dispose of escaping coolant.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

IMPORTANT: Have a container ready to catch the coolant.

Release and disconnect coolant hoses (1).

Unlock and disconnect high-voltage plug connection (2).

Unfasten plug connection (3) and disconnect.

IMPORTANT: Observe NOTES ON PLUG CONNECTIONS  on hybrid cars.

Unlock and detach vent hose (4).

Unlock and disconnect high-voltage interlock loop (1).

Release screws (2) from high-voltage plug connection (3).

Tightening torque 12 36 2AZ .

Detach high-voltage plug connection (2) from EME (3).

Release nut (1) from grounding cable EME (2) on body.

Pull off grounding cable EME (2) from threaded bolt.

Tightening torque 12 36 3AZ .

Unlock and disconnect high-voltage interlock loop (1).

Unclip high-voltage cables (2) from EME.

Unlock and disconnect high-voltage plug connection (3).

IMPORTANT: Observe NOTES ON PLUG CONNECTIONS  on hybrid cars.

Unlock cover (4) at marked points and fold down.

NOTE: If replacing, modify cover (4).

Release nut (5) from equipotential bonding line.

IMPORTANT: Observe notes on EARTH BONDING SCREW connections!

Tightening torque 12 36 4AZ .

Release nut (6) from 12 V grounding cable.

IMPORTANT: Observe notes on EARTH BONDING SCREW connections!

Tightening torque 12 36 6AZ .

Release nut (7) from positive battery cable.

Tightening torque 12 36 5AZ .

Unclip 12 V grounding cable (8) from EME.

Installation note:

Make sure contact surfaces are clean.

Detach positive battery cable (1) at EME (2).

IMPORTANT: Secure EME (1) against falling out.
Check for escaping coolant remnants.
Release screw (2) from EME (1).
Tightening torque 12 36 7AZ .
Undo the nuts (3) from the EME (1).
Tightening torque 12 36 7AZ .
Carefully remove EME (1) toward the bottom with an assistant.

After installation: 

Fill and BLEED cooling system.

Replacement: 

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/CODING .

Connect BMW diagnosis system:

  1. Service functions
  2. Power train
  3. Hybrid car
  4. Electrical machine electronics
  5. Motor position sensor adjustment

Fit EME grounding cable (1) to new EME (2).

Release screw (3).

Tightening torque 12 36 8AZ .

Installation note: 

Make sure contact surfaces are clean.
