32 41 060 Removing And Refitting (Replacing) Vane Pump For Hydraulic Steering Gear
OIL RESERVOIR must be replaced in event of metal abrasion, sluggish pump shaft or increased wear!
The filter integrated in the oil reservoir can only absorb a limited amount of foreign particles. If the filter clogs, the hydraulic system can no longer be sufficiently protected.
Metal abrasion is perceived in the oil reservoir as metallically glittering hydraulic fluid.
Replacement of the oil reservoir due to a leak (e.g. at the hose connections) is only required with unavoidable high penetrations of dirt.
DANGER OF INJURY if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!
Seal off hydraulic lines with seal plugs.
Aluminum screws/bolts are permitted with and without color coding (blue).
For reliable identification:
Aluminum screws/bolts are not magnetic.
Jointing torque and angle of rotation must be observed without fail (risk of damage)!
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Draw off and dispose of hydraulic fluid from oil reservoir.
- Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
- Remove STIFFENING PLATE .
- REMOVE steering assembly cover.
- Remove FAN COWL .
- Remove power steering pump BELT PULLEY .
- RELEASE STEERING SPINDLE ON STEERING GEAR .
- Mark steering gear with respect to front axle support, release and pull slightly towards front.
Release screw (1) and lines (3) and (2) pull off.
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Tightening torque: 32 41 5AZ .
Release screws (1) and nuts (2) of holder on steering gear.
Tightening torque: 32 41 16AZ .
Lay line to one side to obtain more room for removal!
Mark steering gear at front axle support, release and pull to the front.
See repair instructions REMOVING AND INSTALLING STEERING GEAR .
Lay pressure and return lines to one side.
Release hose clamp (1) and detach suction line from power steering pump.
Installation note:
Replace hose clamp.
Release screws (1) and remove power steering pump (2) and turn far enough to the side to be able to release screw connection of pressure line.
See following work operation!
Tightening torque: 32 41 9AZ .
Release banjo bolt (1) of pressure line.
Tightening torque: 32 41 6AZ .
Release screw (2) and remove power steering pump to the bottom!
Tightening torque: 32 41 16AZ .
Installation note:
Make sure hydraulic lines are laid without tension and with sufficient distance to adjoining components.
After installation:
- Fill and bleed HYDRAULIC SYSTEM .
- Check line connections for leaks.
