51 32 154 Adjusting left or right front side window

Special tools required:

Prerequisite:

Vehicle must be standing on its wheels on a level floor
FRONT DOOR correctly adjusted to fit
Verify the WINDOW GAP after the power window has been removed and adjust if necessary

IMPORTANT: When closing the door, the door window glass must not bind along the trim strip in any area of the window (window may break).

If necessary, incoming check

Prior to any adjustments, perform the following incoming checks:

NOTE: Incoming check must be carried out with the weather strip fitted.

Delete the initialization of the POWER WINDOW REGULATOR
Measure retraction depths with special tool 2 304 553 .
Insert special tool 51 0 341 (blue) into the rotary striker and close the rotary striker
51 0 342Measure preload with special tool
Initialize the POWER WINDOW REGULATOR

NOTE: Perform the adjusting procedures with denormalized POWER WINDOW REGULATORS .

Ideal setting, retraction depth/longitudinal direction

Open door.

Connect special tool 2 304 553 to measuring points (A to C) on side window.

Close door.

Measure longitudinal direction (A) and retraction depth (B and C) (refer to next work operation).

IMPORTANT: Door must open and close without the door window glass touching the roof trim strip (risk of damage).

NOTE: Special tool 2 304 553 rest against edge of side window without play for each measurement.
To correctly determine the dimension, transfer edge of profile seal (1) with special tool 51 0 342 to scale perpendicular to special tool 2 304 553 .

Adjusting longitudinal direction/retraction depth

Remove OUTER WINDOW CAVITY COVER STRIP

NOTE: Avoid damaging door window glass and window cavity through tool use.
When configuring setting, ensure that all special tools 2 304 553 continue to touch edge of door window pane without any gaps.

Attach siphon to center of side window.

Slacken multipoint head cap screws (1) 51 3 240 with special tool until door window glass can just be moved with little effort with suction lifter.

NOTE: Always slacken both multipoint head cap screws to avoid tension in the power window system.

Adjust longitudinal direction and retraction depth of door window glass.

Tighten multipoint screws (1) using special tool 51 3 240 .

Tightening torque 51 33 1AZ .

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

Ideal setting, preload

NOTE: Pre-tension can be checked with or without weather strip. Pre-tension is 1.0 mm less with weather strip.

Insert the special tool51 0 341 in the rotary striker of the door lock and close the rotary striker manually.

Close the door carefully up to the point where the special tool51 0 341 magnetically adheres to the striker (= defined door opening angle for measurement).

No force must be exerted on the door or door window glass during measurement.

NOTE: The special tool51 0 342 must contact the sheet metal flange

Slide special tool 51 0 342 at distance (B) of door window glass lateral edge into seal (1). Measure dimension (A) to door window glass (2).

Dimension (A) with weather strip: A = 51 ±1 mm

Dimension (A) without weather strip: A = 52 ±1 mm

B = 30 mm

Adjust preload

Slacken the nut (3) size 13 with the reversible ratchet (2) of the special tool 51 3 300 (consisting of 51 3 301 , 51 3 303 and 51 3 304 ).

Turn knob (1) on special tool 51 3 300 to turn bolt (4) and thereby alter the pre-tension.

Tighten nut (3).

Tightening torque 51 33 4AZ .

Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.

NOTE: After completing adjustment work, it is essential to INITIALIZE the power window unit.
Checking run-in of door window glass:
Door window glass must strike the inside of the gasket.
IF NECESSARY, ADJUST GAP DIMENSION OF B-PILLAR COVER .
