64 52 523 Removing and installing/replacing A/C system compressor (N63, X Drive)
Special tools required:
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Read and comply with safety instructions:
- Handling R 134a (tetrafluorethane) refrigerant . See 64 50... NOTE FOR HANDLING R134A REFRIGERANT or 64 50... SAFETY INFORMATIONS FOR HANDLING TETRAFLUORETHANE REFRIGERANT R134A .
- HANDLING REFRIGERANT OIL
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
READ AND COMPLY WITH NOTES ON COMPRESSOR REPLACEMENT .
FOLLOW NOTES FOR OPENING AND REPLACING PARTS IN REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT
If Air conditioning is opened for more than 24 h:
Replace desiccant insert for A/C system. . See 64 53 517 REPLACING DESICCANT INSERT FOR AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM or 64 53 518 REPLACING DESICCANT INSERT FOR A/C SYSTEM (CAPACITOR REMOVED) .
Necessary preliminary work
- DRAIN OFF AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
- REMOVE air conditioning compressor drive belt
- LOWER FRONT AXLE SUPPORT
Protect cooling fins (1) as shown with suitable material (2) (e.g. aluminum sheet) for the following work operations.
Release screw (2).
Tightening torque 64 53 7AZ .
Take the refrigerant line (1) off the connecting piece (3).
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .
Take the refrigerant line (2) of the condenser.
This work step makes swivelling the compressor to remove the refrigerant lines easier.
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release screw (3) (see next operation).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .
Take off holder (4).
Secure compressor (1) against falling out.
Take compressor (1) off the crankcase and turn downwards slightly.
Release screw in the marked area at refrigerant line (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
Feed out compressor (1) downwards as pictured.
Installation note:
First feed in the refrigerant line (2) then the compressor (1).
Feed in refrigerant line (2) as shown via line (3) to the top.
Secure refrigerant line (2) on compressor.
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Secure compressor.
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .
Replacement
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Adjust amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor. . See 64 52... NOTES FOR CHANGING THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) or 64 52... NOTES FOR CHANGING THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .
Danger of customer complaints due to reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning!
Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor!
Read and comply with safety information without fail .
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
After installation:
