11 12 501 Replacing cylinder head gasket (N57 Diesel)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove CYLINDER HEAD .

The cylinder head gasket is designed as a beaded metal gasket.

Pay attention to gasket thickness (1).

Highest piston protrusion at measuring points (1 and 2) of all 4 pistons determines thickness of cylinder head gasket.

Piston protrusion up to 0.92 mm

Install 1-hole cylinder head gasket.

Piston protrusion >0.92... 1.03 mm

Install 2-hole cylinder head gasket.

Piston protrusion greater than

>1.03... 1.18 mm

Install 3-hole cylinder head gasket.

Assemble engine.
