Piston, connecting rod and crankshaft

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 45 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW M5, 2016 BMW 550i xDrive, 2016 BMW 550i, 2016 BMW 535i xDrive, and 2016 BMW 535i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

These components have also been redesigned due to the modified combustion process and increased speed level.

Pistons

Cast iron pistons are used with a Mahle piston ring package. The piston bottom shape is adjusted to the combustion process and the use of solenoid-controlled injectors with multi-hole nozzles accordingly.

Connecting rods

These are cracked forged piston rods with a straight separation. A shape is drilled into the small connecting rod eye as in engine N20 and N55. This shape bore hole distributes the force effective from the piston and piston pin optimally to the bushing surface. The better force distribution reduces the edge load.

Crankshaft

The crankshaft of the engine S63 TOP is a edge layer hardened forged crankshaft with 6 balance weights. The crankshaft has five bearings. The thrust bearing is in the center at the third bearing position. Unleaded bearings are used.
