64 52 524 Removing and installing/replacing heating and air conditioning system compressor (N63, with Dynamic Drive)
Special tools required:
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for handling refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on compressor replacement. See NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) -or- NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .
Follow notes for OPENING AND REPLACING PARTS in refrigerant circuit.
If Air conditioning is opened for more than 24 h:
Replace DESICCANT INSERT FOR HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
DANGER OF INJURY if oil comes into contact with eyes and skin!
Do not draw off hydraulic fluid (risk of contamination).
Seal off line connections with special tool 32 1 270 .
Recycling:
Catch and dispose of hydraulic fluid in a suitable expansion tank.
Necessary preliminary work:
- DRAW OFF A/C SYSTEM
- Remove air conditioning compressor drive belt. See REPLACING A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT WITH BELT TENSIONER (N63) or REPLACING A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT WITH BELT TENSIONER (N63O1) .
- Remove FRONT RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER
- Remove STEERING ASSEMBLY COVER
- Release UNIVERSAL JOINT WITH CORRUGATED TUBING ON STEERING BOX
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .
Remove lines (3) from capacitor (1).
Protect cooling fins (1) as shown with suitable material (2) (e.g. aluminum sheet) for the following work operations.
Release screw (2).
Tightening torque 64 53 7AZ .
Take the refrigerant line (1) off the connecting piece (3).
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .
Take the refrigerant line (2) of the condenser.
This work step makes swivelling the compressor to remove the refrigerant lines easier.
To do so, draw a wide white stripe on the front bolting points (left and right) and apply a thin black marking (3) to this stripe.
Release screw (2).
Tightening torque 37 13 4AZ .
Disconnect line (3).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 31 35 1AZ .
Lower active anti-roll bar (4).
Unlock and disconnect plug connection on steering box (6).
Release screws (5).
Tightening torque 32 00 1AZ .
Lower steering box (6).
Slacken nut (1).
Remove expandable hose (2) from holder (3).
Release screw (3).
Tightening torque 32 41 15AZ .
Disconnect line (2) from line (4).
Slacken nut (1).
Take line (2) off holder.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 37 13 8AZ .
Disconnect line (2) from line (3).
Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Release screw (3) (see next operation).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 3AZ .
Take off holder (4).
The screw from the previous operation can be reached as shown with a ratchet extension (1) above the front axle support (2).
Secure compressor (1) against falling out.
Take compressor (1) off the crankcase and turn downwards slightly.
Release screw in the marked area at refrigerant line (2).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
Feed out compressor (1) downwards as pictured.
Installation note:
First feed in the refrigerant line (2) then the compressor (1).
Feed in refrigerant line (2) as shown via line (3) to the top.
Secure refrigerant line (2) on compressor.
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Secure compressor.
Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ .
Replacement:
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 64 52 1AZ .
Remove refrigerant line (2).
Adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor. See NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) -or- NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .
Danger of customer complaints due to reduced cooling power of the Air conditioning!
Before the installation of the new compressor, it is absolutely necessary to adjust the amount of refrigerant oil in the new compressor!
The notes on refrigerant oil must be observed! See NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR NOT KNOWN) -or- NOTES (AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT OIL OF NEW COMPRESSOR KNOWN) .
Installation note:
Replace sealing rings.
Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.
After installation:
- EVACUATE AND FILL AIR CONDITIONING
- Check line connections for tightness
- START-UP with test run of Dynamic Drive
