51 12 156 Removing and installing (replacing) rear bumper panel

Attention! 

To guarantee system function on vehicles with LANE CHANGE WARNING SENSOR :

Comply with additional instructions as per paintwork manual.

Release screws (1) on wheel arch cover (2) on left/right.

Fold back wheel arch cover (1).

Release screw (2).

Tightening torque 51 12 4AZ .

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 51 12 6AZ .

Feed out cover (1) upwards out of guides (2).

Release screw below it.

Tightening torque 51 12 5AZ .

Installation note: 

Sealing lip of cover (1) must not  lie below edge protection for tailgate.

Sealing lip of cover (1) must rest correctly on edge protection for tailgate.

NOTE: Carry out work on the right side in the same way as for the left side illustrated here.

NOTE: The following tasks must be carried out with a second person assisting:

Unclip the bumper panel (1) in the area (2) left/right outward.

Unclip bumper panel (1) in area (3) toward the rear.

If necessary, disconnect plug connections of ultrasonic sensor and remove bumper panel (1).

Installation note:

Clean plug connection on wiring harness and ultrasonic sensor!

Latch mechanisms in this area (2 and 3) must be routed correctly into the corresponding holders.

Adjustment, see 41 00... BODY GAP DIMENSIONS .

Installation note: 

Latch mechanisms and guides (1) must not be damaged or missing.

If necessary, replace faulty sheet metal nuts left/right.

Replacement: 

Unlock retaining tabs (1) in the direction of the arrow and pull out ultrasonic sensor (2) upwards from bracket (3).

Installation note: 

Retaining hooks of ultrasonic sensor (2) must engage exactly in retaining tabs (1).

Installation note: 

Make sure rubber ring (1) is correctly fitted on ultrasonic sensor (2).
