The diagnosis monitors the adjustment of the intake camshaft.

The fault is detected when the desired position is reached too slowly and deviates by more than the tolerance range (10-15 °kW) from the setpoint angle.

Following applies to all other versions:

The fault is detected if the setpoint position is reached too slowly.
