Multi-part oil sump

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 45 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW M5, 2016 BMW 550i xDrive, 2016 BMW 550i, 2016 BMW 535i xDrive, and 2016 BMW 535i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The oil sump is made of aluminum and designed in two parts. The oil filter is installed in the upper part of the oil sump and accessible from the bottom. The oil pump is screwed to the upper part of the oil sump and driven by the crankshaft with a chain. The drive chain and camshaft sprocket are separated from the oil to prevent the engine oil from foaming up. The oil deflector is integrated in the upper part of the oil sump. The oil drain plug in the oil filter cover has been discontinued.

The following graphic shows the multi-part oil sump. For better illustration of the components, the graphic is turned by 180°.
