41 21 540 Replacing Front Left Or Right Door Pillar (Front Side Panel Removed)

Spot-weld bonding is used on this vehicle. Observe specific PROCEDURE .

Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS  for repairs.

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Observe procedure for REPAIR STAGE 3 .

Following new body parts are required:

Following CONSUMABLES  are required:

Material Quantity
Adhesive K1 1
Blind rivets N1 1
Cavity sealing wax remover 1
Cleaning agent R1 1
Sealant D1  

Door post removal 

NOTE: New outer A-pillar part does not contain a reinforcing tube.

Mark severance cut (1) in accordance with measurement a and cut support carrier.

Measurement a = 115 mm from hole dia. 25 mm.

IMPORTANT: Cut outer metal panel only.

Open welded connections in area (2).

Loosen SPOT-WELDED ADHESIVE JOINTS  in area (1).

Open welded connections in area (2).

Open brazed joint in area (3).

New part preparation 

Mark severance cut on carrier support in accordance with severance cut on vehicle and disconnect.

Prepare reinforcement plate at severance cut.

Adjust new parts to fit with alignment bracket or universal mounting.

NOTE: Adhesive is omitted in areas (1). Observe specific PROCEDURE  and seal this area with utmost care.

New part is attached in this area (2) using adhesive riveting technology.

In area (2), drill 1 Ø 6.8 mm bore hole for a BLIND RIVET N1 .

Remove new part and deburr bore hole.

Prepare the BONDING SURFACES .

Door post installation 

Clean bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.

Apply ADHESIVE K1  to bonding surfaces.

Install new parts using an alignment bracket or universal mount.

Rivet new part around the bonding surface.

Weld new parts.

When welding the new parts, ensure that the adhesive joints of adjoining components are not damaged by the application of heat.
