11 12 670 Cleaning intake port with walnut shell granulate (N54)

Special tools required:

IMPORTANT: The intake valves of the corresponding cylinder must be closed when cleaning the intake ports.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
Remove cylinder head cover.
Remove intake plenum.

Prepare peener (81 29 2 208 034) with walnut shell granulate.

Remove fastener (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation note:

Install fastener (1) with bore facing outwards.

Rotate crankshaft at central bolt into TDC setting.

Slide in special tool 11 0 300 in direction of arrow and block crankshaft.

IMPORTANT: On engines with automatic transmissions, there is shortly before the dowel hole for the TDC position a large bore which can be confused with the dowel hole.

If the flywheel is secured in the correct bore hole with special tool 11 0 300 , the engine can no longer be moved at the central bolt.

N54.

With 1st cylinder in ignition TDC position, cams of intake camshaft (1) at 6th cylinder point downwards at an angle.

The cam on the intake camshaft points upwards at an angle.

The intake valves at the first cylinder are closed.

Position extraction adapter 81 29 2 208 037 over intake port of the first cylinder.

Insert probe 81 29 2 208 033 at extraction adapter 81 29 2 208 037.

Connect compressed air connection.

Connect and switch on vacuum cleaner at extraction adapter 81 29 2 208 037.

Slide locking lever (1) to the front in direction of arrow.

Actuate compressed air valve (2). Compressed air can now stream in.

Actuate valve (3). Walnut shell granulate is injected.

Cleaning:

Cleaning time approx. 30 seconds.

The cleaning result is improved by moving the probe 81 29 2 208 033 in a circular pattern.

Operate valve (2) for an additional 10 to 15 seconds to assist cleaning.

NOTE: Check that no walnut shell granulate remains in the intake port.
Crank crankshaft at central bolt by 120° each and clean individual intake ports in firing order (1 5 3 6 2 4).

Assemble engine.
