32 11 100 Replacing gaiter for steering box on left or right: Notes

IMPORTANT: The hydraulic steering gear must be replaced if the polished surface of the rack is damaged (e.g. by corrosion)!

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Release band clamp (1).

Mark screw-in depth of track rod (2) or count thread turns.

Release screw (3).

Tightening torque 32 21 3AZ .

Twist track rod (2) out of track rod end (4).

Installation note: 

Replace microencapsulated screw.

Release EAR CLIP  (1).

Pull off gaiter (2) from the track rod (3).

Installation note: 

Clean rack and check surface for damage (e.g. by corrosion).

Grease rack (lubricating grease FB-1: part number part number 2 208 093).

Clean track rod and apply grease to taper. This ensures that the gaiter is not rotated when the track rod is rotated.
