41 34 041 Stripping Operations - Replacing Tail Panel

NOTE: Owing to the different engine variants and equipment specifications, not all the components are taken into consideration.
The following list basically represents the removal sequence.
  • Remove battery (FR number: 61 21 010)
  • Remove bumper trim (FR number: 51 12 156)
  • Remove bumper carrier (FR number: 51 12 050)
  • Remove guide for rear bumper in the center (job number: 51 12 825)
  • Remove guide for rear left and right bumper (job number: 51 12 828)
  • Remove luggage compartment floor trim panel (FR number: 51 47 101)
  • Upper tail panel trim (FR number: 51 46 050)
  • Remove left luggage compartment wheel arch panel (job number: 51 47 151)
  • Remove right luggage compartment wheel arch panel (job number: 51 47 161)
  • Remove striker for rear lid (FR number: 51 24 130)
  • Remove both rear lights (job number: 63 21 180)
  • Partially detach tailgate seal
  • Undo both rear silencers on the body
  • Partially undo the heat shield

Luggage compartment floor, left:

Release nut (1) and remove earth support point.

Undo the control unit holder (2).

Undo wiring harness (3) and put to one side together with the holder (2).

Luggage compartment floor, right:

Undo nuts (1) and remove ground support points.

Undo grommet (2) and remove wiring harness towards the inside.

Installation note: 

Please ensure correct installation of the grommet. (watertightness).

Undo screw (1) and remove battery crash pad (2).

Undo engaged latches (3) and remove the holder with the control unit (4) towards the top and put to one side.

Undo nut (1) and remove the negative battery cable (2).

Tightening torque 61 21 6AZ .

Release wiring harness (3).

Undo the control unit (4) from the tail panel and put to one side together with the wiring harness.
