Pointer Instruments And Moving-Disc Indicators: Construction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 BMW 645Ci and 2004 BMW 645Ci. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The instrument cluster has a total of 6 step motors for the various instruments.

For the first time, moving-disc instruments are used in the instrument cluster.

On the left, the set speed for cruise control is displayed on a moving-disc instrument.

On the right, a moving-disc instrument shows the engine-revolutions advance-warning field. The engine-revolutions advance-warning field is subdivided into:

The engine-revolutions advance-warning field is controlled as a function of engine temperature. The engine-revolutions advance-warning fields for spark-ignition and diesel engines differ.

Spark-ignition engine Diesel engine
Start of the variable engine-revolutions advance-warning field 4200 RPM 3500 RPM
End of the variable engine-revolutions advance-warning field 6300 RPM 4600 RPM
Start of the fixed warning field for engine revolutions 6500 RPM 5000 RPM
End of the fixed warning field for engine revolutions 7000 RPM 5500 RPM

The instrument cluster has an 18-pin connection to the onboard power supply. The internal acoustic generator is also on the rear of the instrument cluster.
