Display Range Of The Head-Up Display: Construction

The background colour of the head-up display is black. The contents of the head-up display are displayed as follows:

• Orange as standard colour
• Red or yellow for warnings
• Green for set speed

The 4 colours orange, red, yellow and green are generated as follows:

• Special layout of LEDs
• Corresponding actuation of LEDs by electronic circuitry of head-up display

The size of the virtual image display range is approx. 20 x 10 cm (width x height). To make the contents of the display easier to read, the display range is divided into an upper section and a lower section. Navigation instructions and Check-Control messages are displayed in the upper section. Speed-related information is displayed in the lower section. Which displays contents are shown is set in the Central Information Display (CID) using the controller.

The following illustration shows the virtual image with navigation instructions in the upper display range:

1. Current road speed
2. Navigation instructions in the upper display range, consisting of:
   • Driving direction arrow
   • Bar gauge
   • Next road
   • Distance to road intersection/junction
3. Speed set with cruise-control system (FGR) or Active Cruise Control (ACC)
4. Display for vehicle detected and programmed time interval for vehicle in front (ACC only)

The following illustration shows the virtual image with a Check-Control message in the upper display range:

1. Current road speed
2. Check-Control message with symbol in the upper display range
3. Speed set with cruise-control system (FGR) or Active Cruise Control (ACC)
4. Display for vehicle detected and programmed time interval for vehicle in front (ACC only)

The virtual image can only be viewed completely and properly if the position of the eyes is within a certain range on the driver's side. Outside this range, it is not possible to view the virtual image completely.
