54 10 170 Removing and installing front glass slide/tilt sunroof panel

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW 328i xDrive, 2016 BMW 328d xDrive, 2015 BMW 328i xDrive, 2015 BMW 328d xDrive, and 2014 BMW 328i xDrive. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The following steps can be carried out in passenger compartment with the glass roof panel fully closed.
Open floating roofliner fully.
Make sure that grease at the ends of the rail do not come into contact with the roofliner.
Not necessary for replacement: 
Before removing the Torx screws, make a mark around the washer in order to ensure correct alignment during installation.

Installation note: 

To unscrew Torx screws (see next work step) press side cover seal (1) downward in the marked area.

Side cover seal (1) must not be damaged or soiled.

Replace side cover panel (1) if necessary.

Release Torx screws (1).

Installation note: 

Replace Torx screws and insert with Loctite.

Align shims to marks.

Screw down glass slide/tilt sunroof panel.

Tightening torque 54 12 01AZ .

IMPORTANT: A second person is required to help in removing and installing the glass slide/tilt sunroof panel!

Lift out glass slide/tilt sunroof panel (1).

Installation note: 

Tape off installation area on left and right at roof aperture with fabric adhesive tape.

Install glass slide/tilt sunroof panel carefully (twist in) as gasket can be damaged during installation.

Check glass slide/tilt sunroof panel for correct ALIGNMENT  and adjust if necessary.

Checking the glass slide/tilt sunroof panel prior to re-installation: 

Check the glass slide/tilt sunroof panel (1) for existing and correctly applied felt (2).

In the event that felt strips (2) are missing or partially loosening, perform the following operation.

Application of felt strips on the glass slide/tilt sunroof panel: 

If necessary, remove felt strips completely.

Clean the marked areas (1) with adhesive remover.

Apply bonding agent to marked areas (part number 83 19 9 407 777).

IMPORTANT: Observe the air drying time of 15 minutes.

Apply felt strips (1) at marked areas. Apply felt strips (1) securely along the bead (2).

IMPORTANT: Do not stick over bead (2). Leave a gap to the bead.
Tightly press felt strips (1) down during bonding.
