32 31 102 Replacing steering shaft sleeve

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM
US vehicles only: Remove AIRBAG MODULE for driver knee protection
Unclip air duct in footwell.
Remove bottom steering shaft . See 32 31 070 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LOWER SECTION OF STEERING SHAFT , 32 31 070 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING SHAFT LOWER SECTION (N47 ALL-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE) or 32 31 070 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING BOTTOM STEERING SHAFT (N20 ALL-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE) in engine compartment.

Pull locking pin (1) off of steering shaft collar.

Press in latch mechanisms (2) from engine compartment and press steering shaft collar in passenger compartment.

Remove STEERING COLUMN with steering shaft collar.

Installation note:

Mount STEERING COLUMN with steering shaft collar from passenger compartment.

Screw steering column on body.

Insert steering shaft collar into the recesses in the bulkhead and press in until the latch mechanisms engage audibly and palpably.

Check latch mechanisms from engine compartment for tight fit and mount locking pin.
