18 00 020 Removing and installing complete exhaust system (N20, N26)

Special tools required:

31 2 220

WARNING: Risk of burning!
Only carry out this repair work when the exhaust system has cooled down.

IMPORTANT: Removal of the exhaust system must be carried out with the assistance of a second person.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

F23, F31, F33, F34, F36 only:
Remove tension strut (rear axle) left or right.

Support exhaust system with jack and special tool 31 2 220 or other suitable special tool and secure against falling down.

Release screws (1).

Remove underbody panelling (2).

Release clamp (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 1AZ .

NOTE: The graphic shows the N20.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 31 6AZ .

If fitted:

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 4AZ .

Remove reinforcement plate (2).

If fitted:

Release screws (1).

Replace screws (1).

Tightening torque 18 20 5AZ .

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 18 20 4AZ .

Remove reinforcement plate with trailing links.

Unfasten nut.

Tightening torque 18 31 5AZ .

Unlock connector from exhaust flap and pull off.

Slacken nut (2).

Tightening torque 18 31 5AZ .

Lower and remove exhaust system with assistance of a second person.

Installation note:

Check exhaust system for leaks.
