51 16 160 Removing and installing/replacing center console cover (gear selector switch)

Special tools required:

00 9 327

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Before dismantling it is imperative to note whether the version of the installed controller is before or after 10/2009!

Before 10/2009 : Controller has buttons at only bottom .
After 10/2009 : Controller has buttons at bottom and top .

For version (1) up to 10/2009 (without M models) the CONTROLLER BUTTON must be removed as preliminary work for cover center console.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
There is a risk of damage when lifting the cover out of the side area (3)!
Place special tool 00 9 327 directly at clamps (2)!

Tape off cover (1) and center console in working area.

Lift cover (1) out of the center console with special tool 00 9 327 beginning in the front area.

CAUTION: Risk of breaking the cover!

Then carefully lift out cover (1) in side area (3).

Lever out the remainder of the clamp (2) and remove the cover (1).

Installation note:

Retaining clips (1) and (2) must not be damaged or missing.
