51 36 070 Removing and installing/replacing left or right rear side window

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: The "INSTRUCTIONS ON CEMENTING WINDSCREEN"  serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.
Cover rear side panels with protective covers.
NOTE: Removal is performed with ROLL OUT 2000 . Only use an oscillating blade when replacing the windscreen.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Version with TV: 

IMPORTANT: Tape off body in area of piercing point with fabric adhesive tape (risk of damage).

Push wire starter from ROLL OUT 2000  at line (1) through cement bead.

Replacement only: 

Fit straight blade with adjustable roller (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) on tool and set dimension (X).

Adjust dimension (X) differently according to different position of adhesive bead, refer to Fig 3.

NOTE: Sharpen knife blade before every use on a running machine (even with new knife blades).

Tape off side window and body flange all round with fabric adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).

Replacement only: 

Adjust starting roller of blade in areas (A) and (B) differently (risk of damage).

A= 16 mm

B= 30 mm

C= cut with scalpel from top downwards

Replacement only: 

Secure outside of side window with adhesive tape.

Insert blade carefully between body and side window.

Guide web of blade parallel to side window. Cut through adhesive bead as close to body as possible.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to cable on side window (risk of damage).

Replacement only: 

Use a scalpel (1) (for heavy-duty applications) in C-pillar area, which cannot be reached with the oscillating blade.

IMPORTANT: Carefully cut through adhesive bead with scalpel.
During the cutting procedure, a 2nd person must pull the side window with special tool 51 3 010 at rear in outwards direction.

Remove side window with special tool 51 3 010 .

Fitting 2 dual-lock tapes: 

Remove rest of dual-lock tapes (1) and clean bonding area.

Stick on new dual-lock tapes (1) between markings (2) on body area.

Dual-lock tapes on side window must match these dual-lock tapes.

Attach special tool 51 3 010 to tool trolley. Moisten suction surfaces and secure side window.

If reusing the previous side window, remove residual adhesive down to 0.5 mm.

Dual-lock tapes (6) on side window must be matched with dual-lock tapes on body flange.

Almost vertical part (B) of adhesive bead (1) must face PVC spray-coating (5).

Spread cement bead (4) with special tool 00 9 322 .

Fit side window underneath with special tool 51 3 010 .

Replacement only: Fit side window using positioning pin.

Position side window at top.

Close rear door.

Adapt side window to rear door if necessary.

Snap side window into dual-lock tapes and secure with yellow plastic adhesive tape*.
