11 66 521 Checking function of vacuum system (S63)

Special tools required: 

IMPORTANT: Note the sequence of the diagnosis instructions in the ISID: 
Depending on the fault pattern, the order of operations in the repair instructions may be different from the order of operations in the ISID  .

Carry out procedure to check the vacuum system.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Vacuum pump is fitted on cylinder head cover 1 to 4 at rear on intake camshaft.

Check suction effect of vacuum pump. 

Pull vacuum line (1) off vacuum pump (2).

Fit special tool2 201 924.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check vacuum generation in system. 

Disconnect vacuum line (1) to exhaust flap on left spring strut dome.

Connect engine-side vacuum line (1) with special tool 2 201 924.

NOTE: When used with the IMIB  the absolute pressure is displayed.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Functional check of exhaust flaps. 

Check function of exhaust flap (1) on both rear silencers (2).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Leakage test of hoses to exhaust flaps. 

Check leakage test of hoses to exhaust flaps.

Disconnect vacuum line (1) with pliers (2) as shown in the graphic.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check leakage test of hoses at vacuum reservoir. 

Disconnect vacuum line (1) at vacuum reservoir (2).

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Check wastegate capsule and linkage. 

Check wastegate linkage (1) on exhaust turbochargers for freedom of movement.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Vacuum line (1) to vacuum reservoir. 

Disconnect vacuum line (1) at T-piece and at connection to vacuum reservoir.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Release vacuum line (1) at vacuum reservoir (2).

Vacuum line (1) to vacuum pump. 

Seal vacuum line (1) at T-piece with a sealing cap (2).

Connect special tool 2 201 924 to T-piece.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Vacuum line (1) to vacuum reservoir and pressure converter. 

Disconnect vacuum line (1) on T-piece and connect to special tool 2 201 924.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

Pressure converter connections 

Disconnect vacuum hose at connection (VAC = vacuum reservoir).

Disconnect vacuum hose at connection (OUT= turbocharger vacuum unit).

Installation note: 

Pressure converter cylinder 1-4 (OUT) has a fabric hose.

Pressure converter cylinder 5-8 (OUT) has a molded hose.

Check function of wastegate capsule. 

Pull vacuum line (1) off pressure converter plug connection (OUT).

Connect vacuum line (1) with vacuum line (2) from vacuum reservoir with a T-piece and special tool 2 201 924.

Follow diagnosis instruction.

NOTE: Remove all special tools.
Reassemble the vehicle.
