11 78 513 Replacing both lambda oxygen control sensors (N54)
Special tools required:
Work should only be carried out on an exhaust system that has cooled down.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove CLEAN AIR PIPE
- Remove front UNDERBODY PROTECTION
- Release right TIE ROD from power steering gear
Installation:
The threads of new lambda control/monitor sensors are already coated with Never Seez Compound.
If a lambda control/monitor sensor is to be reused, apply a thin and even coating of Never Seez Compound to the thread only.
The part of the lambda control/monitor sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramics) must not be cleaned and not coated with lubricant.
Unclip lines at positions (1).
Unlock and detach plug connections (2 and 3).
Installation:
Plug connections (2 and 3) must snap audibly into place!
Lay both lines downwards in direction of arrow.
Unclip lines (1) at position (2) and lay downwards to one side.
Release oxygen control sensor (3), cylinders 1 - 3, with a suitable tool.
Release oxygen control sensor (1), cylinders 4 - 6, with a suitable tool.
Installation:
Cable color grey for oxygen control sensor (1), cylinders 4 - 6.
Screw in oxygen control sensor (1) hand-tight with a suitable tool.
Tighten oxygen control sensor (1) with special tools 11 7 030 and 11 9 150 to specified tightening torque.
Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ .
Installation:
Cable color black for oxygen control sensor (1), cylinders 1 - 3.
Screw in oxygen control sensor (1) hand-tight with a suitable tool.
Tighten oxygen control sensor (1) with special tools 11 7 030 and 11 9 150 to specified tightening torque.
Tightening torque 11 78 1AZ .
Assemble engine.
Check function of DME control unit.
