64 12 160 Removing and installing or replacing complete independent heater with bracket

WARNING: Risk of scalding!
Only perform the following repair work on an engine that has cooled down.
NOTE: Clamp off COOLANT HOSES  on independent heater.

Recycling: 

Fuel escapes when fuel line is detached. Have a suitable collecting vessel ready.

Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Release screws (1).

Remove lower left cover (2).

Release spring clamps (1) and detach coolant hoses.

Installation note: 

Top up coolant and vent cooling system. Refer to relevant procedures for applicable engine in COOLANT, CHECKING COOLING SYSTEM .

Unlock and detach fuel line (2).

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten screws (2).

Lower independent heater (3).

Installation note: 

Make independent heater (3) is correctly seated.

Release spring strap (1) and detach coolant hose (3).

Remove independent heater (3).

Replacement: 

Until 09/2012, replace for diesel engines duplicate type label (1).
