12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (N54, N54T, N55)

Necessary preliminary work 

• Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit.
• Switch off ignition.
• Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
• Remove intake plenum  . See 11 61 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE PLENUM (N54, N54T) or 11 61 050 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE PLENUM (N55) .

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Release nut (2) and remove the positive battery cable.

Tightening torque: 12 42 2AZ .

Release screws (3) and remove starter motor (4).

Tightening torque: 12 41 1AZ .

Tightening torque: 12 41 2AZ .

Installation note: 

Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace starter motor if necessary.
