54 37... Align basic gauge
Special tools required:
To prevent damaging the basic gauge, set the gauge down only in the transportation crate or on the vehicle side panel.
The basic gauge is a highly sensitive measuring instrument which reacts even to light impacts with distortion.
The basic gauge must be checked for dimensional accuracy on a master gauge after being subjected to impact or dropped.
The basic gauge specifies the basic setting on the X, Y and Z axis.
The basic gauge is essential for the following job items:
- Calibrating the coupling lock
- Calibrating the roof module console
Lift out cover (1) on left base plate.
Installation note:
Cover (1) for base plate must be replaced after each removal.
Special tool 54 0 120 must be equipped with correct plastic block (1).
Plastic block without labelling only matches E93.
Plastic block with labelling 2 360 046 B only matches F33/F83.
Remount plastic block (1) as necessary.
Basic gauge
Remove butyl strip in side panel in area of basic gauge and clean with Isohexane.
Sand off protruding solder seams.
Restore corrosion protection.
Carefully mount special tool 54 0 121 (cross member) on side panel.
Connect special tool 54 0 122 (arm for x-axis spacing) to cross member and left cowl panel base plate.
Connect special tool 54 0 123 (arm, right) to cross member and gauge 54 0 122 .
Observe tightening sequence:
- Tighten rear screws on basic gauge to 2 Nm.
- Tighten screw connecting arms to 2 Nm.
Check basic gauge is contacting at all four contact points.
Do not exert any pressure on the arms!
Adjust knurled screws without exerting force.
Center basic gauge to body with knurled screw.
Set identical value on scale on both sides (this value may differ from vehicle to vehicle because of the body tolerances). Signs (+ or -) must be identical on both sides.
Basic gauge must contact on inner side panel with no play.
